A man in his early 30's has appeared before Cork District Court charged in connection with an aggravated burglary in the city, earlier this week.

At approximately 11.50pm last night a man carrying a knife burst into a house on Highfield Avenue in Cork city.

He threatened two females in their early 20s who were occupying the property at the time.

Both were uninjured, but Gardaí say the man left the scene on foot with a small sum of money, handbags and phones.

A description of the suspect was circulated and Gardaí arrested a man a short distance away.

He was taken to Togher Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He was charged this afternoon in relation to the incident and was remanded in custody.
