The far-right French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has officially started her bid for the presidential election in April.

She recently made a fiery speech at a rally in Lyon where she attacked globalisation and radical Islam.

She's also promised a referendum on membership of the EU - and a clampdown on immigration, claiming Islamic fundamentalism is a threat to the French way of life.

During her speech she said "In reality, I defend the walls of our society. But, everyone is aware that all of this is called into question today. Our leaders have opted for deregulated globalisation. They wanted it to be a success, but it turned out to be awful."

Le Pen’s efforts to frame the National Front as anti-establishment come in the wake of international political shifts such as the election of Donald Trump in the US and Brexit.

At the rally, she unveiled a 144-point plan which includes a referendum on pulling France from the European Union and pushing firms to hire French workers as a “national priority".
