Eight military troops have died after their plane crashed into a hillside in Cuba.

The accident happened in the western province of Artemisa, according to the local government.

The military say the aircraft took off from the Playa Baracoa airport outside Havana at 6:38 a.m. and a special commission will investigate the crash.
