Liverpool are starting to look like they are making moves back towards the top tier of Premier League teams. Consecutive 2-2 draws away to Arsenal and Manchester City are a solid case for elevation of their status, but it is the manner in which they have done it that will most please the Anfield club’s fans. The combination of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge has proved to be an explosive, intelligent pairing that has transformed Liverpool since the end of last year.

City struggled to contain the pair yesterday, with Suarez moving between the City midfield and defensive lines with impunity at times.

It may have taken two excellent strikes from Gerrard and Sturridge to penetrate City’s armour, but that can’t take away from the excellent performance – with the notable exception of Pepe Reina mistake that allowed Segio Augero to score (an admittedly excellent goal) shortly following Gerrard’s long range strike put Liverpool ahead.
