The Garda Commissioner is refusing to speculate on a leaked report that suggests major decentralisation in the force.
The shake-up is reportedly recommended by the Garda Inspectorate following allegations from whistleblowers that crimes like murder and rape were not properly investigated.
The changes could also have a major impact on Dublin-based national units - some of which may be decentralised.
Speaking today at Garda Headquarters, Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald T.D. said the review of the police force is “is a very important analysis of crime investigation in this country.”
The Minister will present the report to Cabinet tomorrow.
The report, Minister Fitzgerald said, is “a very comprehensive analysis and a detailed analysis of the situation.”
“It’s long overdue, I’m very pleased to have it and I think it will be a roadmap for the future,” she added.
