A series of vigils are currently underway around the country, in support of Maurice McCabe and other Garda whistleblowers.
They are being organised by the campaign group Uplift which says whistleblowers provide an important public service and must be protected.
Nearly 25 vigils have been organised so far and they will take place in front of local Garda stations around the country including Blackrock, Castlebar, Cork, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Monaghan, Tallaght, Tralee, and Tullamore.
The organisers say that "These events have been organised spontaneously by grassroots communities" and said that their page is a "helpful resource for those interested in participating."

Uplift's spokesperson Siobhan O'Donoghue said "The grassroots nature of this - the way people from all of walks of life are taking action across the country - shows just how deeply shocked the nation has been by the scandal of how Maurice McCabe was treated.
"Uplift members have been calling for the Garda Commissioner to stand aside as the smear campaign against Maurice McCabe is investigated. We deserve a police force we can trust - and we deserve answers and accountability - sooner rather than later."
