An Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe two viable Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) found at a derelict house near Cavan town.

The devices were found in the Aughnaskerry area on the outskirts of the town on Saturday evening.

Following a request from the gardaí, a team was deployed and were on the scene at 8.45pm.

Following an examination of the devices, they were found to be two viable igniferous IEDs.

They were made safe at the scene and removed to a military location for further examination.

The scene was declared safe at 10.40pm.

The Defence Forces say following a technical examination of the devices, the parts will be handed over to the gardaí for evidential purposes.
