The US President has held talks with his Russian counterpart on the potential formation of an “impenetrable cyber security unit” to combat election hacking.
At the G20 Summit in Hamburg this weekend, President Trump met Vladimir Putin face-to-face for the first time since taking office.
The US leader said he “strongly pressed” Mr Putin on claims of Russian meddling in last year's US Presidential election.
In a series of tweets this morning, he said the Russian leader had “vehemently denied” the claims adding “I have already given my opinion.”
On Saturday, President Putin said he believed Mr Trump was satisfied with his denial – adding that the groundwork had been laid for an improvement in US – Russian ties.
"I believe it would not be entirely appropriate on my part to disclose details of my discussion with Mr Trump,” President Putin said following the meeting.
“He asked, I answered him. He asked pointed questions, I answered them.
“It seemed to me that he was satisfied with those answers.”
I strongly pressed President Putin twice about Russian meddling in our election. He vehemently denied it. I've already given my opinion.....

Cyber Security Unit
President Trump said the two leaders had discussed the formation of a bilateral cyber security unit so that “election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded and safe.”
President Trump also hailed a ceasefire that has come into force in parts of Syria this afternoon that he said “will save lives.”
The ceasefire was brokered with the assistance of the US, Russia and Jordan and announced at the summit on Friday.
The ceasefire area borders upon Jordan and will be policed by Russian forces.

President Trump has insisted that the G20 summit in Germany was a "wonderful success” - despite disagreement over the Paris Climate Accord.
In a joint statement, the leaders of 19 nations recognised America's decision to withdraw from deal.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the other 19 members of the G20 had agreed that the Paris Accord is “irreversible and is going to be implemented as quickly as possible” despite the US' “dissenting view.”
British Prime Minister Theresa May said she is dismayed at President Trump's decision to pull out of the accord.
“Well I did bring the issue of the climate change agreement up with President Trump,” she said.
“I have had a number of conversations with him over the time that I have been here at the G20.
“When I brought it up with him, what I did was encourage him to bring the United States back into the Paris Agreement.”
Following his talks with Mrs May, President Trump said he expected to reach a post-Brexit trade agreement with the UK "very, very quickly" adding that it would be great for both countries.
