The Irish Muslim Peace and Integration Council say that they are willing to help the government screen refugees to ensure that no ISIS militants are coming to Ireland.

Earlier this week Taoiseach Enda Kenny said that extremists want to blow up historical sites here, such as Newgrange and the Rock of Cashel.

However muslim leaders say that ISIS terrorists are travelling to Syria rather than fleeing the country.

Founder and CEO of the Irish Muslim Peace and Integration Council Shaykh Umar Al-Qadri says they will help to ensure that extremists don't sneak into the country posing as refugees:

Thousands took part in a demonstration in Dublin city this afternoon to show their support for refugees seeking asylum here.

The rally was organised by the Irish Anti-War Movement, who are calling for an end to violence and the civil war in Syria.

The demonstration also addressed the concerns of some, who feel that taking in refugees will divert limited resources from Irish people.

But Anti Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy, says with the right management and economic policies, there can be enough resources to provide a good standard of living for Irish people as well as refugees:

This week the government announced it would admit 4,000 refugees, rising from the previous figure of 1,100. Ireland will primarily be taking refugees who are currently in Greece and Hungary, whose origins are largely in Syria and Eritrea.

The government is to establish emergency reception and orientation centres around the country, and a special task force is to be set up to manage the programme.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald clarified that those arriving would not be subject to Direct Provivion scheme, and that she expects 90% to be cleared to work quickly.
