Ireland maintained their 100 per cent start to the rugby worl cup with a less than convincing 16-9 victory over Italy.

Joe Schmidt might be a little bit underwhelmed by his side's performance and O'Driscoll echoed these sentiments on tonight's Off The Ball.

"I've been thinking about it and you could pitch it at different ends of the scale," he said, "This game was about winning, absolutely, and they won. Job done.

"Having said that, all the words I've seen spoken from Paul O'Connell and Joe Schmidt, I know they'll be annoyed with themselves and I know they'll be disappointed. They had too many penalties, too many unforced errors and not enough pattern."

O'Driscoll explained that despite the performance, they can make improvements and know what areas they need to strengthen.

"This was a little bit of a kick up the backside, but you know, it was the time to get it.

"We can't afford that next week [against France] or in a quarter final, otherwise you'll be eliminated. Italy threw the kitchen sink at us and we were still able to handle it despite playing well below par.

"They'll go back and have a nasty review and see where they went wrong. They know that if they play anything like they did against Italy, they'll be blown away."
