A Defence Forces Bomb Disposal Team made safe a suspect Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Tullamore, Co Offaly earlier this evening.
On request from An Garda Síochána, the Bomb Disposal Team were deployed.
The Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 2.40pm, carried out an assessment and proceeded to make safe the suspect device. The scene was declared safe at 5.20pm.

A cordon was established in the surrounding area and a number of houses were evacuated to ensure public safety.
The device was removed to a secure military installation for further examination. Material of an evidential nature will be handed over to An Garda Síochána to assist with their investigations.
