The Cabinet has decided that St Patrick's Day trips abroad by ministers will go ahead in a "curtailed fashion".
The Department of Foreign Affairs will now draw up the list of what ministers are going where.
The Taoiseach has accepted an invitation from the White House and will travel to Washington DC.
However Ministers James Reilly, Alex White and Ged Nash - who lost their seats - will not take part in trips abroad.
Cabinet met today for the first time since the weekend's general election, which saw Labour and Fine Gael suffer huge seat losses.
Under the Constitution, the outgoing Taoiseach and ministers remain in their roles until a new Taoiseach is elected and a government formed.
Counting is continuing in Longford-Westmeath to decide the final two seats in the 32nd Dáil.
The new Dáil is due to meet on March 10th.
