Many people today expressed their frustration after experiencing 'severe delays' at a video game convention in Dublin city centre.

GamerCon is being held at the Convention Centre in Dublin today and tomorrow.

The event boasts the presence of a number of prominent gaming brands - including PlayStation and Xbox - as well as a number of prominent YouTube personalities. Irish band All Tvvins are also scheduled to perform.

However, reports on social media this morning indicated that many people were left queuing for hours as they attempted to gain access to the event.

One attendee said they queued for four hours, while others complained of over-subscription in the centre itself.

The event's website was this afternoon offering refunds for anyone unable to gain access.

In a statement to Newstalk.com this afternoon, GamerCon offered its sincere apologies for the 'significant delays'.

They said: "As a first time event we underestimated the traffic flow that we forecast for the event and have very strict health and safety related capacities which we must adhere to. That temporarily impacted our ability to process the queue which resulted in longer than expected wait time for our attendees.

"We are managing this proactively and expect the situation to ease as the day progresses. We have offered full refunds to those who decide not to attend and have communicated this to attendees via mobile app and all social media channels."
