One man killed in serious accident involving a multiple vehicle pile-up in Cork

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N20, Cork-Limerick Road at Ballydahin, Mallow, County Cork this afternoon Sunday 20th March 2016 shortly after 12.30pm.

A man, aged in his early 70's, suffered fatal injuries when the lorry he was driving was involved in a collision with four cars. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem is to be arranged.

The occupants of three of the cars, 3 males and 3 females, aged in their mid teens to late 60's and the passenger of the lorry, a man, aged in his late 20's were taken to Cork University Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The two occupants of the fourth car involved were uninjured.

Emergency Services and The Red Cross also attended the scene.

A horse was also fatally injured in the collision.

The N20 remains closed at Ballydahin, Mallow to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
