Secondary school teachers are warning that it remains to be seen if there will be industrial action in their dispute with the Government over the Landsdowne Road agreement.

The ASTI and the TUI unions have rejected the deal to reverse pay and pension cuts.

Both unions will meet separately over the coming days to decide what their next move will be.

General Secretary of the ASTI, Pat King, told Newstalk.com's Breakfast Show that while there is no threat of strike at the moment - that may change: 

TUI president Gerry Quinn says the deal does nothing to help job security for teachers on part-time hours - and that problem MUST be addressed:

Meanwhile, a group representing secondary school principals and deputy principals - The National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals - is calling for a review of secondary school teachers contracts.

The group would like the new contracts to reflect ongoing professional development and different teaching practices.

Director Clive Byrne says it is in everyone's interest to have contracts that acknowledge the teachers work and responsibilities:
