Police in the UK are investigating a complaint from the Vote Leave campaign who claim that a promotion from Ryanair offering cheap flights to travel to the UK to vote to 'stay' in the upcoming in/out referendum on EU membership broke bribery laws.

The Irish airline's "Brexit special" invited people who are able to vote on June 23rd to “fly home to vote ‘remain,’” and offered flights from €19.99 for a 48 hour period, starting on June 22nd.

"Vote Leave must be getting really desperate if they are now objecting to low fare air travel for British citizens,” Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary said after the complaint was lodged.

The company has now extended the sale, referring to the cheap flights as, "The fares they tried to ban!"

The promotion will continue for a further 24 hours as the company hopes to, "ensure even more British citizens living abroad can fly back to vote ‘Remain.’"

Vote Leave campaign director Dominic Cummings says that the offer is "corrupt" and alledges that it broke referendum rules.

“By its discount on flights on the day before, and the day of the referendum, Ryanair is paying the expense, in part, of provision to voters in order to influence them to vote in the referendum.

“This appears to be corrupt, since the company is offering discounts on the commercial rate to customers with the sole aim of ensuring that they vote and vote to remain in the European Union,” the filling said.
