A rainfall warning is in place today for five counties, with a risk of flooding.

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow alert for western parts of Galway, Mayo, Clare and Cork.

Between 30 to 50mm of rain is expected there today, tonight and much of tomorrow, with up to 70mm possible in mountainous areas.

A more severe status orange rain warning is in effect in Kerry, where 60 to 100mm of rainfall has been forecast.

The rain will be stronger in western and mountainous regions of the county.

Showers will become lighter and patchier along Atlantic fringes during the afternoon and evening, with notices for all five counties expiring at 6pm.

Elsewhere, it will be a rather cloudy but mainly dry day, apart from patchy light rain.

Top temperatures will be between 14 to 17 degrees in mostly moderate southeast to east breezes, but fresh and gusty near coasts.

Tonight will be mainly dry with clear spells. Patches of mist and fog will form as southeast to east winds fall light.

Lowest temperatures will range from 10 to 13 degrees.

Information thanks to Met Éireann
