An original copy of the Irish Proclamation has sold for €150,000 at an auction in Dublin this weekend.
This rare copy of the document is believed to have hung in the GPO during the 1916 Rising and is among the several hundred items sold at an auction in the Gresham Hotel today.
It was sold to a private Irish collector who placed their bid anonymously by telephone. A bundle of keys for the GPO were also sold this evening for €3,400. This item is believed to have been discovered in the ruins of the building and is thought to be the original flag of truce from Moore Street.
The auction was held by Fonsie Mealy Auctioneer.
