Qandeel Baloch shot to fame after posting racy videos and photos
A Pakistani woman who became a social media celebrity has been killed in a so-called 'honour killing'.
Qandeel Baloch shot to fame after posting what were considered racy videos and photos on her Facebook page.
The 26-year-old also recently caused controversy by posting pictures of herself alongside a Muslim cleric.
Regional Police Officer Sultan Azam told The Express Tribune: "Qandeel was killed by her brother over honour in Green Town area."
"It appears that she was strangled to death."
Her parents claim she was killed following an argument, and that they found her body the next morning.
Reports say police are searching for her brother, who is now on the run.
She posted a video to her Facebook page on Friday, which examined her approach to 'twerking'.
Tributes form fans have been posted under the video after news of her death.
"Whatever she did honour killing is not justified by Islam, we are living in an intolerant society where an individual cannot live his/her life according to his/her own will," one man wrote.
"There is no justification of her murder in the name of honour", a woman said.
"No one deserves to die like this," another man added - while another user said this was "Brutal truth of our society...".
Also late Friday, she posted a photo of herself with the caption: "No Matter how many times i will be pushed down under,,But I m Fighter I will Bounce back.. # Qandeel #Baloch is "One Women Army".. #Qandeel #Baloch inspiration to those ladies who are treated badly and dominated by the society..I will Keep On Achieving and I know You will Keep On Hating."
