A 71-year old prisoner is fighting a move to return him from Connecticut to Georgia after spending FORTY-EIGHT years on the run.
Robert Stackowitz escaped from a prison work camp in the U.S. in 1968 - and was discovered this year after making a social security application.
He had only served two years of the 17-year sentence for robbery he was serving when he escaped from the Carroll County Convict Barracks in Georgia.
He escaped back to Connecticut where he eventually bought a house in a small town in the west of the state. He used the alias Bob Gordon and fixed boat engines for a living.
He was caught after applying for social security benefits under his real name and the Georgia Corrections Department found out his whereabouts.
