Hotpoint and Indesit have issued a safety notice warning of “a potential concern” with tumble dryers, including the Creda brand, manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015.

They have said on their website that excess fluff can come into contact with the heating element on the machine which then presents a risk of fire.

Whirlpool acquired the Indesit Company, which consists of the Hotpoint brand, in 2014. They said they have been reviewing the safety of its product portfolio since the acquisition.

Hotpoint and Indesit Ireland have both posted links on their websites to the safety notice where concerned customers can check their tumble dryer model for a problem.

Newstalk have contacted Whirlpool for more information about the issue in Ireland and are awaiting a response.

A spokesperson for the company told ITV News today: “We estimate that a significant number of units will be affected, but at this stage, we cannot speculate regarding the specific figure.

“These products were marketed in the UK and a number of other countries over the past 11 years, so we would expect a fairly large number of them to be affected.”
