Aston Villa play Sheffield United in the third round of the FA Cup tomorrow.

But manager Paul Lambert has admitted that he would prefer Premier League points to progression in the Cup.

Last season's winners Wigan were relegated despite triumphing at Wembley, while many Premier League managers have admitted that survival is a greater incentive than cup success.

Indeed, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said he understood Lambert's stance on the Cup.

But tonight on Off The Ball, former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson told us that Aston Villa's chairman should sack Lambert for his comments.

"Because you do well in the Cup, doesn't mean to say that you're going to do poorly in the league. If I was the chairman of Aston Villa, I'd be sacking Paul Lambert straight away for that comment because there's going to be lots of supporters going to their games at the weekend wanting to see their side do well. They want to see the best players," Robson told Dave McIntryre.

"It's a disgusting attitude that the manager can say that on the eve of an FA Cup tie.

Robson also believes his former club Arsenal needs to take the FA Cup seriously. The Gunners who face Tottenham tomorrow evening are involved in the title race but have not won a trophy since 2005.

"Arsene Wenger is now expected to win the title. If you spend £42 million on a player from Real Madrid, you're expected to do well and start to win things. It's a big game for Arsenal. They haven't won anything in eight years. They need to win a trophy and if it's the FA Cup, it's all well and good. If they won the FA Cup, came third in the league and got knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich, I'd be very happy that Arsenal won a trophy."

Robson also believes Fulham's Dimitar Berbatov would be a good signing for the Gunners heading into the second half of the season.
