The PSNI says the discovery of a 'terrorist hide' in Co Antrim is one of the most significant seizures of ammunition and explosives in recent years.
Three barrels were found hidden in the woods near Larne after members of the public reported suspicious objects on Saturday, leading to a two-day search operation.
An armour-piercing rocket, anti-personnel mines and pipe bombs were all uncovered, along with other ammunition and explosives.
Detectives say a number of the devices were ready to be deployed, and one of their main lines of enquiries will be on dissident republicans.
It is still not known if it is linked to a similar terrorist haul discovered at Canfunnock Country park in March.
Detective Superintendent Kevin Geddes said: “We are indebted to the two members of the public who spotted suspicious objects on Saturday. Their vigilance prompted the recovery of this significant and substantial haul of munitions and has undoubtedly contributed to lives being saved".
