Met Éireann has issued a yellow weather warning for several parts of the country.

It says winds in Connacht, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal and Waterford will reach up to 60 km/h tonight and tomorrow.

It is also forecasting gusts of between 80 to 100 km/h tonight and early on Saturday morning - strongest in exposed and coastal regions.

While there will also be scattered showers in the west and north, and some wintry hail or sleet over high ground.

The winds will pick up tonight, reaching gale force for a time in exposed areas of the north and east.

There will also be showers in western and northern counties, wintry on high ground.

Lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees, with ground frost developing in many areas.

Tomorrow will see a cold, bright and mostly dry start - with isolated showers in the northwest.

But cloud will increase from the west and outbreaks of rain will affect the western half of the country.

Met Éireann says it will stay largely dry further east, with highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.
