A man has died following a road collision in Arklow, County Wicklow this morning.

The collision occurred at around 2:20am last night.

A man - believed to be in his 40s - was struck by a car while walking on Coolgreany Road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to St. Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

Gardaí said the driver of the car was uninjured.

The road at the scene of the crash is currently closed ahead of an examination by garda forensic collision investigators.
