A man has died following a stabbing incident in Galway.
It happened at a house on Cardinal Cushing Road in Mervue shortly after 4.00am on Sunday morning.
The man, aged in his late 30s, suffered apparent stab wounds.
He received medical assistance at the scene, before being taken to University Hospital Galway.
He was prounounced dead there a short time later. A post mortem is to be arranged.
Gardaí arrested a man aged in his mid-60s at the scene.
He is currently being held at at Gaillimh garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The scene is preserved for technical examination, and the State Pathologist's Office has been notified.
