A man has been arrested after a mother of four was abducted from her home in Co Longford yesterday.

The incident happened shortly after 4pm when the woman in her 20s was taken from her home in Edgeworsthtown.

The woman's four children and three others were present at the time of the abduction. No one was injured during the course of the incident. 

A major search operation was launched and the woman was safely located early this morning.

In a follow up operation, a man in his mid-20s was arrested and is being detained at Granard Garda Station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.
