A man has been arrested after two handguns were discovered in Dublin.

It came as gardaí from the drugs unit were on armed patrol on Casement Drive in Finglas at around 10.35pm last night.

Gardaí say they spotted a man acting suspiciously.

The man is said to have fled into nearby gardens, and was seen discarding a rucksack before he was caught.

Gardaí recovered the rucksack nearby and two handguns & ammunition were found inside.

During a search of the suspect, gardaí say they also found a set of keys.

Following a search of the area, they discovered a stolen car parked on Casement Drive which is said to be "associated with the keys".

A 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Finglas Garda Station, where he is currently being held under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
