A couple who bought a lotto ticket while "passing through" Ennis have collected a jackpot for €5,318,671.

They purchased their €7.50 Quick Pick in the Roslevan Stores in Roslevan on Wednesday October 28th, the day of the jackpot draw.

This was the first time the store has sold a winning Lotto ticket.

The lucky couple, who do not wish their win to be a public one, are not from Clare and declared themselves 'delighted but not surprised' to have won.

The lucky husband said: "I always said I'd win Lotto, but it was still a very big surprise when it happened, and all the more because I've been playing since 1988, when the game began, and always play my own numbers".

"On Wednesday, I included just one line of Quick Pick numbers - as insurance - and that's the line that won", he added.

The family say they already have some plans to celebrate the win.

"A trip to Las Vegas, a family weekend away very soon, just to chat through it all", his wife said.

"We're going to look after the family, children and grandchildren, and make sure they're sorted".

"And I'm definitely buying a two-seat convertible Ferrari. It's been on my bucket list, and now it’s time to act" she added.

This is the 40th Lotto jackpot to be won from a ticket purchased in Co Clare.
