Labour has given one of its biggest awards - the James Larkin Thirst for Justice Award - to Mairia Cahill.

Ms Cahill went public that she was allegedly raped by a Republican and was then subjected to an IRA kangaroo court.

She has also claimed that Republicans then conspired to move sex offenders south of the border, where they were free to offend again.

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has disputed some of her claims, but admits the IRA created its own justice system because of a lack of trust in the RUC and British courts.

Mairia says she is honoured and humbled with the award, and that she "will continue doing everything in my power to help highlight the situation, and try to protect children from further harm".
