An Irish man is reported to be in a serious condition in hospital in Sydney after an alleged serious assault.

Sydney Morning Herald reports that Jason Cierans - aged 29 and reported to be originally from Cork - was found unconscious outside a pub in the suburb of Bondi Junction.

New South Wales Police say that two men - aged 27 and 30 - were arrested at the scene of the alleged assault.

The 27-year-old man was charged with affray. He was granted conditional bail and will appear in court on Monday.

Meanwhile the 30-year-old man has been charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, and has been refused bail. He is due to appear in court on Sunday.

The two men and the victim are not believed to be known to each other, police have said.
