An investigation is underway after the deaths of two newborn babies at Cavan General Hospital
The infants died in separate incidents.
Last Wednesday a newborn baby died at the hospital aged just one day old, with reports the death was unexpected.
Just yesterday, a second infant died after the mother got into difficulty in labour.
It is understood an emergency Caesarean section was ordered, but it is unclear whether the operation was carried out.
In a statement, the RCSI Hospitals Group confirmed that two investigations have commenced directly in regard to Cavan General Hospital, however, it is not the policy of the hospital to comment on individual cases.
Last year a review carried out at Cavan General following a spate of infant deaths found a lack of consultants at the Maternity Unit.
