So Starbucks is trialling a stout beer-flavoured coffee in its branches in the US that’s being compared to Guinness.

The blend is called a ‘Dark Barrel Latte’, and comes complete with a whipped cream ‘head’, that’s then daubed with dark caramel sauce.

No word yet if the barista will draw a shamrock in the foam though.

The coffee doesn’t actually contain any alcohol, and is described in the official Starbucks’ literature as being a “sophisticated combination [offering] a delicious complexity that builds with every sip.”

And that got us thinking, what other sophisticated flavour combinations could good old Irish cuisine bring to the 21,000 Starbucks branches around the world?

1: The 'Iced Caramels' Iced Caramel Macchiato:

All of the deliciousness of a cloyingly sweet Iced Caramel Macchiato, but with some chopped up Lemon's Iced Caramel sweets sprinkled on top. Sip your way to chewy diabetes.

2: The Brown Bread Ice Cream Affogato:

All of the fun of a scoop of vanilla ice cream in your coffee, with extra stale brown bread bits floating on top.

3: Iced 'Tanora' Tea:

For when your iced tea needs that extra tangerine hit that nobody outside of Cork has ever heard of.

4: The 'Milky Moo' Mocha:

All the fun of a regular chocolate-infused coffee, but with the extra satisfaction of a chewy mint that also crumbles and has the most incredibly satisfying mouth feel ever.

 5: The 'Snowball' Frappucino:

Nothing beats walking through town on a sunny day, sipping on coffee mush with swathes of white mallow folded through. And don't forget the desiccated coconut.

6: The Turnip Spice Latte:

Pumpkin is so passé.
