The family of Ibrahim Halawa are threatening to hold a protest outside the Department of Foreign Affairs, if the 19-year-old isn't released from prison in Egypt.

The family say that they will go to the Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan's office in Dublin, if Ibrahim is not released by tomorrow.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says Ibrahim Halawa's welfare while in custody remains a 'primary concern'.

The statement from Charlie Flanagan's office follows claims by the Irish teenager's family that his life is in danger in the Cairo jail where he has been held for almost two years.

19-year-old Dubliner Ibrahim was arrested during anti-Morsi protests at a mosque in August 2013.

Ibrahim's trail was due to take place today - the fifth time he had been given a trial date. It has now been delayed again until April 26th.

Amnesty International Ireland have previously spoken out against the length of Ibrahim's detention period, as well as over their concerns about the integrity of the Egyptian justice system.

Minister Flanagan says he wants 'to see Ibrahim back in Ireland with his family'.

Colm O'Gorman, Executive Director of Amnesty International Ireland, said, "Amnesty International is extremely concerned not only at mass trials where defendants face trumped up charges without consideration of each defendant's individual criminal responsibility. We are further concerned for the immediate safety of the detained defendants especially Irish Prisoner of Conscience, Ibrahim Halawa.

"The detention conditions he is being reportedly held in amount to psychological torture given he would be surrounded by prisoners sentenced to death and waiting to be executed. Added to this is the psychological impact of being held in a cell which has housed prisoners who were subsequently executed," he added.

Ibrahim's sister Somaia, who confirmed that the trial has been postponed again, says their mother went to visit the jail where he's being held.

She says the Irish government need to take action now:

Somaia says Ibrahim is in great distress, and he is being tortured in prison:

Somaia, Omaima and Fatima Halawa joined with supporters outside the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin yesterday, campaigning on the Government to make a phone call to Egypt for the immediate release of their brother.
