It seems US destinations are riding high in the list of summer hotspots for Irish people.

Spain, Portugal and the USA are the most popular holiday destinations to visit in summer 2016.

That is according to the latest Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) quarterly survey.

The US also topped the poll for city break destinations - with New York being the most popular, followed by Barcelona, Rome and Prague.

The ITAA says the resurgence of US destinations at the top of the poll has been greatly helped by new routes to the US launched by airlines.

When asked about the biggest travel trends in 2016 so far, agents say all inclusive cruises have seen a huge surge in popularity.

Camping in Europe is also becoming increasingly popular among families this year.

The survey also showed that there has been a decline in travel to North Africa, Turkey and Greece.

For some agents, city breaks to Brussels, Paris and London have also been affected.

But the mood looks positive, as 60% of Irish travel agents have seen an increase in bookings in the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.
