It may seem incredibly unlikely right now, Joel Snell, an expert in robots from Kirkwood College, Iowa has said that human-robot marriages could be a reality by 2050.

Joel Snell, an expert in robots from Kirkwood College in Iowa, said the machines could be programmed to each individual person’s requirements.

“Because they would be programmable, sexbots would meet each individual user’s needs,” Mr Snell told the Daily Star. "Robotic sex may become addictive. Sexbots would always be available and could never say no, so addictions would be easy to feed,” he added.

This echoes the prediction made by Ian Yeoman and Michelle Mars of the University of Victoria Management School in their paper entitled "Robots, Men and Sex Tourism". The pair suggested that sex robots would be used as high-end prostitutes by 2050. Yeoman, a scientist and Mars, a sexologist, envision a futuristic brothel staffed with sexbots.

In their report, they say, "In 2050, Amsterdam's red light district will all be about android prostitutes who are clean of sexual transmitted infections (STIs), not smuggled in from Eastern Europe and forced into slavery, the city council will have direct control over android sex workers controlling prices, hours of operations and sexual services."
