The Health Service Executive (HSE) is trying to persuade Irish nurses working abroad to come home, with a relocation package worth around €1,500.
The HSE has launched a recruitment drive on social media, in the hopes of filling 500 posts.
It is offering to pay for returning nurses flights home, to meet first time nursing registration costs and give incremental credits for experience gained outside Ireland.
They will also be offered permanent positions within the HSE and funded post-graduate education.
The HSE says it hopes that many Irish nurses and midwives working in the UK in particular will take up the opportunity to return home.
Announcing details of the campaign Ian Tegerdine, national director of human resources, said: "The campaign will focus on connecting with nurses and midwives in the UK and further afield via advertising on social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter and a dedicated microsite during the coming months."
Those who take up employment will benefit from a salary scale of €27,211 to €43,800, with additional pay for shift and differentials.
