A search has begun in Dublin by Gardai investigating allegations a woman was raped and gave birth to two babies, several decades ago.

The woman claims the babies were killed and buried in the back garden of a house, during the late sixties and seventies.

Gardai served a search warrant at an address in south Dublin earlier this evening.

It is anticipated the search will last for up to a month.

Gardai say the results of the dig will determine the future direction of the investigation.
