Gardaí say they are investigating over 200 lines of inquiry into the murder of Kenneth O'Brien.
The dismembered body of Mr O'Brien was found in a suitcase last Saturday in the Grand Canal, at Ardclough in Co Kildare.
Gardaí say that they are still trying to find out where Mr O'Brien was killed, and are trawling through phone and CCTV records.
They have also searched the victim's home and the area around where his body was found.
Superintendent Gerry Wall told KFM they have not yet been able to identify where the murder was carried out.
And he again appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
Earlier, Conor Feehan - journalist with The Irish Independent and Herald newspapers - told Newstalk Breakfast that gardaí ruled out Mr O'Brien's involvement with criminal gangs early on.
