Gardaí investigating a shooting in a Dublin housing estate earlier this week have said they are following “several hundred lines” of inquiry.

Christopher Maguire (38) was shot several times at Dun Emer Place in Lusk at around 9.50am on Tuesday.

He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

A white Volkswagon Golf was seen leaving the area and discovered burnt out on a nearby road, Kilhedge Lane, a short time after the shooting.

Detectives today renewed an appeal for help in tracing the movements of the suspected getaway car, which bore the Northern Ireland registration number XFZ 9316.

Superintendent Noel Carolan urged anyone who saw the vehicle on the morning of the attack to contact gardaí.

An incident room has been established at Balbriggan garda station and a family liaison officer has been appointed to the case.

Mr Carolan said: "I would like to thank members of the public who have provided information and assistance in the investigation to date.

“Several hundred separate lines of inquiry are being followed by investigating gardaí with assistance from detectives attached to the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and other national units.

“I am again appealing to anyone with information to contact the incident room.”
