A Frenchman in his 50s has died after downing 56 shots of alcohol. Police have now opened an investigation into the incident.
It is believed that the man in question, who has not been named by authorities, took part in a drinking competition which resulted in him downing 30 shots in just one minute.
He was apparently trying to beat a record of 55 shots, according to RTE News.
The man was driven home following the drinking competition but called the emergency services later that evening. He died the next day in hospital after slipping into a coma and having a heart attack.
Police are reportedly now investigating the bartender's responsibility in the incident.
