French authorities have charged a terror suspect after finding a cache of weapons which they say pointed to an "imminent" attack.

The suspect, Rida Kriket, is accused of a string of terrorism offences, including participation in a terrorist group, French prosecutor Francois Molins said.

The French national is also accused of possessing and transporting arms and explosives, and holding fake documents.

An arsenal of weapons and explosives were found at the suspect's Paris home following his arrest last week.

Mr Molins said no specific target for the planned attack has yet been identified.

"At this stage of the investigation, while no specific target has been identified, nonetheless everything leads us to believe that the discovery of this cache (of weapons) has allowed us to prevent an action of extreme violence by a terrorist network," he said.

Meanwhile French President Francois Hollande has dropped plans to change the constitution to strip militants convicted of terror attacks of their French nationality.

Mr Hollande said "a compromise appears out of reach," after the two houses of parliament failed to agree the reforms.

The proposal followed November's Paris attacks which killed 130 people.
