Flight returns to Cork Airport amid reports of fire onboard

An Aer Lingus flight bound for London had to return to Cork Airport after reports of a fire.

Cork Airport say flight EI712 to London Heathrow returned back to the airport shortly after take off.

It landed safely just before 1.30pm.

The airport says a full activation of its emergency plan was deployed - with Cork City and Cork County Fire Services as well as HSE ambulances turning out.

Pictures show passengers leaving the aircraft from the emergency wing exits.

They have returned safely to the terminal, with no reports of any injuries.

A full technical investigation is now underway and Cork Airport remains open.
