The plight of undocumented Irish in the US will be raised during the Taoiseach's St Patrick's Day visit to the US.

Enda Kenny has arrived in Washington ahead of his meeting with US president Barack Obama tomorrow.

The Taoiseach is today attending a series of business events to promote the Irish economy and inward investment in Ireland.

The traditional presentation of a bowl of shamrock to the US president will take place at the White House tomorrow, on St Patrick’s Day itself.

Over the weekend he’s had some high-profile encounters with the likes of Hulk Hogan - as he spreads a message of Irish goodwill across the United States.

But today for Enda Kenny it’s back to brass tacks and another series of events to pump some more life back into the Irish economy.

The Taoiseach’s day is dominated by business breakfasts and economic promotion lunches, as part of the ongoing effort to promote investment in Ireland, and to help Irish firms do more business over here.

Tonight he’ll attend a gala dinner hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce - another chance to rub shoulders with those who have money to spare, and who may need a place to spend it.

Reporter Shona Murray says the Taoiseach will raise the issue of the undocumented Irish when he meets the Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner:

Shona also spoke to Newstalk Breakfast about the rest of the Taoiseach's schedule in the States, Gerry Adams' visit to the US and Hillary Clinton's induction into Irish America magazine's hall of fame later today.
