Dublin has been voted the second friendliest city in the world by readers of a top international travel magazine.

Rising from fifth in 2014, the capital comes in second to Sydney, with readers of Conde Nast Traveler describing Dublin as a fun destination with a warm welcome.

Dublin was described as “the ‘new’ Barcelona, without the sunstroke”, and a place where tourists will find “pubs and restaurants filled with locals and tourists alike, coming together to celebrate life.”

Queenstown in New Zealand came in at third, Krakow in Poland was fourth and Bruges in Belgium was fifth. One Conde Nast reader said of Bruges that is: “like being in a fairytale”.

Dublin wasn’t the only city from Ireland or the UK to make the cut, with Scottish capital city Edinburgh coming in at number six.

In the ‘Unfriendliest Cities’ rankings, Venezuelan capital Caracas came in at number one, ahead of Casablanca, Morocco, and Guangzhou, China. Further down the list of unfriendly holiday destinations were Nairobi, Moscow and Cannes – a place said by one reader to be “bloated simply by the prestige of its famed film festival”.
