SIPTU represented drivers at Dublin Bus have voted in favour of strike action as part of an ongoing pay dispute.

They're looking for a pay rise in line with the 18.3% given to LUAS drivers recently.

Dublin Bus drivers attached to SIPTU have voted by 95% for strike action.

It follows the trade union's rejection of recommendations from the Labour Court last month in a long-running dispute over pay.

Dublin Bus has issued a statement saying it's "extremely disappointed" and called on its staff not to engage in any action that could affect customers or the company.

The company said it remains available to engage with unions with a view to resolving the dispute.

But SIPTU spokesperson Owen Reidy says following today's ballot, 24 and 48 hour bus stoppages could be imminent: "Well, there's a real possibility of 24 and 48 hour stoppages, and potentially an indefinite strike. I think we're talking weeks here, as opposed to months."

"We'll sit down, assess the results, and plan action going forward but it could happen as early as the next two weeks."
