Germany forward Marco Reus has been hit with a massive €500K fine for driving without a licence.
The highly-sought after Borussia Dortmund star had received five speeding tickets since 2011 before authorities realised he did not in fact have a licence.
"The reasons I did it are something I cannot really understand," the 25-year-old told German tabloid Bild.
"Today I know that I was too naive and that it was stupid. I have learned my lesson and this will not happen again."
It is the largest fine of its kind handed out in Germany.
Reus missed Germany's World Cup triumph in the summer due to injury and has suffered a number of ankle problems this season.
