The European Commission has launched an investigation into pricing at Disneyland Paris, it has been claimed that the company has been charging consumers different prices depending on their country of purchase for certain packages - and excluding some regions from promotional offers.

It is alleged that the destination, which is Europe's biggest amusement park, charged German visitors up to €2,447 for premium packages, while French consumers paid €1,346 for the same deal - and British holidaymakers were charged €1,870.

"We are currently scrutinising a number of complaints, including several against Disneyland Paris," a European Commission spokesperson said in a statement to AFP.

Overcharging customers in certain regions is against EU rules and Disneyland could be taken to court.

"Too often, consumers seeking to buy services or goods in another [EU] member state are prevented from getting the best price," the Commission spokesperson added.

It is believed that the French government has been asked to examine these claims.

Last week the EU also launched an antitrust investigation into six Hollywood studios who have been accused of breaking EU laws by blocking access to content in separate European regions - Disney was one of those studios.

European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker has pledged to fight against price discrimination across the EU and has launched a number of initiatives to eliminate price discrepancies - particularly in online sales.
