Former Anglo Irish Bank chief David Drumm has failed in his second bid to be released on bail in the US.
Drumm is in prison in Boston, pending the outcome of proceedings to extradite him to Ireland to face fraud and false accounting charges.
The former banker is wanted to face 33 criminal charges which relate to transactions carried out while he was in charge of Anglo Irish Bank.
He is currently being held in a maximum security prison.
The Irish Independent says his lawyers argued he is being held in "intolerable and inhumane" conditions, in which he is subject to safety risks.
However, a judge at Boston District Court denied the application.
David Drumm's hearing will be held on March 1st.
