A man charged in connection with the murder of IRA informer Denis Donaldson has been granted bail by the Special Criminal Court.

Patrick Gillespie, with an address at Craigvar Street in Glasgow, was yesterday charged with withholding information from the garda investigation into the killing.

Mr Donaldson, a former leading Sinn Féin member, was shot dead in the Doochary area of Donegal in April 2006.

It happened months after he was exposed as an agent who had worked for MI5 for over 20 years.

Mr Gillespie was today granted bail on a bond of €6,600 pending sureties that he will appear for further court dates being presented this afternoon.

Under the terms, he must surrender his passport and not attempt to leave the country.

He has also been required to live at an address in Co Donegal and sign on every week at Letterkenny garda station.
